Minutes of ASFAR Board Meeting of April 4, 2001

The meeting was called to order at approximately 9:30 pm eastern time.

Approval of Minutes

The minutes of the March 21st meeting were approved without objection.

Reports of Officers

The President, Justin Mallone, gave no report.

The Vice President, Larissa Price, reported that she wrote an article on ASFAR for her school paper, and that it will appear in May, reaching a circulation of roughly 9,000.

The Secretary, David Schneider-Joseph, reported approximately one new member per day.

Old Business

The new drinking age and voting age sites, as well as the web-based discussion forum were presented and met general approval. David Schneider-Joseph agreed to send a message to the discussion list announcing the new sections and requesting volunteers to maintain some of the issue-related web sites.

David Schneider-Joseph reported that he emailed Chris Hansen to request that the ACLU help ASFAR find an attorney to file a court brief in the ACLU's lawsuit challenging the Child Internet Protection Act.

David Schneider-Joseph moved that a box, unchecked by default, that reads "The local ASFAR chapter may contact me." be added to the join form on the web site. The motion was seconded, and carried unanimously.

Matthew Havens reported that he sent an email to VoteSmart, Issues 2000, and politics1.com requesting that youth rights issues be represented on their web sites, but that he had not yet received a response.

The next board meeting was scheduled for April 18, 2001, at 9:15 pm eastern time.

The meeting adjourned at approximately 11:15 pm eastern time.
