Minutes of Board Meeting of July 14, 1999

Board Members Present: Eric Anderson, Justin Mallone, Arthur Traldi, Susan Wishnetsky, Nickolai Zeldovich. (Note: Board Member Alex Thiele was prevented from logging on due to technical difficulties.)

Old Business A motion was made to appoint Nickolai Zeldovich to one of the two board vacancies. The motion passed.
The subject of a bank account was raised again. Eric Anderson reported that ASFAR had made about $81 from being designated by visitors to the iGive web site. It was noted that the office of Treasurer was vacant. The motion was made to appoint Arthur Traldi as ASFAR's treasurer; after some discussion, the motion passed.
Eric Anderson reported that the form required to establish ASFAR's tax status, entirely filled out, could still not be submitted until the money was raised to pay the filing fee. The assignment of writing position papers was discussed. It was decided to postpone assigning any new position papers until all board members were present.
Eric Anderson proposed that ASFAR's P.O. box be established at a location convenient to the secretary. Susan Wishnetsky reported that, with that very idea in mind, she had already obtained a P.O. box. A motion was made to establish that P.O. box as the official mailing address of ASFAR; the motion passed.
A motion was made to appoint Susan Wishnetsky secretary (instead of interim secretary); the motion passed.
The option of moving ASFAR's incorporation to Chicago was discussed and rejected without a vote.
Justin Mallone was appointed Webmaster of ASFAR by Eric Anderson.
Nickolai Zeldovich offered to investigate the production of T-shirts and other promotional items to sell. Justin Mallone said that he would post T-shirt designs on the web page for members to vote on.
The board decided to hold biweekly meetings, every other Wednesday at 7:30 pm Central Time, 8:30 pm Eastern Time.
New Business Justin Mallone offered to be the Editor-in-Chief of a web-based monthly 'zine, to be created in cooperation with others. After some discussion of the frequency, a motion was made to publish the 'zine on a bimonthly basis with Justin Mallone as editor. The motion passed.
Susan Wishnetsky offered to produce a print version. Justin Mallone proposed that ASFAR create a caucus and use the online congressional simulation at http://209.180.36.177/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi to refine the debating skills of its members. The motion passed.
A motion was made to adjourn. The motion passed.
