Minutes of Annual General Meeting of the Membership, September 15, 1999

Visitors Present: One.

The meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM Central Time.

Reports of Officers

Reports of the Secretary, Vice-President and President were presented. In the absence of the Treasurer, the President also presented information on the financial status of ASFAR.

Candidates for the Board of Directors

The slate of candidates for ASFAR's Board of Directors was presented by Eric Anderson and a motion was made to approve the slate for the ballot. The motion carried unanimously.

Proposed Changes in Bylaws

The proposed changes in the bylaws were discussed. A motion was made to change the proposed requirement for new members from "mailing address" to "state". The motion carried with four in favor, one opposed, and two abstentions.

A motion was made to approve the proposed bylaws changes, as revised, for inclusion on the ballot. The motion passed unanimously.

Proposed Changes in Declaration of Principles

A motion was made that the proposal to eliminate section 8.3 (the age of consent position) of the Declaration of Principles be stricken from the ballot. After discussion, the motion failed, with two in favor, five opposed, and one abstention.

A motion was made to add a proposal to the ballot eliminating section 6 of the Declaration of Principles (discrimination in business). After discussion, the motion passed, with four in favor and three opposed.

A motion was made to add a proposal to the ballot which would add a new subsection to section 4 (education) of the Declaration of Principles, to be worded "All laws requiring compulsory education should be repealed." The motion was amended to add an additional subsection reading "The rights of all students should be protected at school." After discussion, the motion, as amended, passed unanimously.

A motion was made to approve the proposed changes to the Declaration of Principles, as amended, for inclusion on the ballot. The motion passed unanimously.

Other Business. The name of ASFAR's zine was discussed. After several suggestions, a motion was made that "Youth Truth" become the title of the 'zine. The motion passed with five in favor and one abstention.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:51 PM Central Time.
